About This Project

Rainbow Ridge Seniors Housing

Cortes Island, BC

Project Description:  Charettes and Open House

Client:  Cortes Island Senior’s Society

Status:  2018

Team:  Cindy Brenneis | Peter Reese | Jim Heinmiller | Doug Ramsay

RWA was engaged to support the Cortes Island Senior’s Society in the development of a masterplan and the first phase of development for senior’s housing on a 30 acre site. The process was rooted in community engagement, featuring design charrettes and an open house.  These sessions allowed us to explore the community’s expectations and concerns and ensure their input was reflected in the masterplan.

Since clustered housing was a new concept for the area, we provided diverse precedents to build a shared understanding. The final design balances sustainability and BC Housing guidelines with the residents’ desire for privacy and communal connection. A site plan, building plans and units plans were provided for the first phase of development.
